‘미니 달’로 알려진 이 소행성은 9월 29일부터 11월 25일까지 지구 주위를 한 바퀴 도는 궤도를 완료할 예정이다.

이 소행성은 일반적인 달처럼 맨눈으로 볼 수 없으며, 가정용 망원경으로도 관측할 수 없다. 달의 크기와 지구에 대한 거리 때문이다.

이 소행성의 지름은 약 10미터로, 궤도 기간 동안 지구의 중력의 영향을 받게 된다. 지구를 돌며 궤도를 형성하지만, 완전한 궤도를 완료하지 않고 다시 태양의 궤도로 돌아갈 것으로 예정된다. 이는 지구의 달과는 다르며, 달은 지구 주위를 영구적으로 돌고 있다. 2024년 8월 7일에 처음 발견되었지만, 날짜가 가까워짐에 따라 관심이 더욱 높아지고 있다.

이 기간 동안 소행성은 지구 주위를 돌지만 완전한 궤도를 완료하지 않을 것이다. 두 달 후, 다시 태양의 궤도로 돌아갈 예정이다.

The asteroid known as a ‘mini-moon’ will complete a single orbit around Earth from September 29th to November 25. 

Unfortunately, it will be unable to be spotted with our naked eye, like our typical moon, or with a home telescope. Significant reasons for this are the sheer size of the moon and the distance compared to the moon. 

The asteroid is roughly 10 meters in diameter and will be affected by Earth’s gravity in the period of orbit. The asteroid will loop around Earth but will not complete a full orbit, with is returning to the orbit of the Sun. This is atypical to our moon, as it permanently rotates around Earth.  It was first discovered on August 7, 2024, but attention is higher than ever as the dates approach.

During this time, the asteroid will loop around Earth but won’t complete a full orbit. After the two months, it will return to orbiting the Sun.
